OUR HISTORY

1967

The London Head Office and a Tokyo office were established in the UK.
MIKI took its first steps as a tour operator by setting up a direct handling network in major European cities.

1972

Became the Tokyo Branch of Miki Tourist Company Limited.

1974

A project for computer implementation was launched.

1967 – 1975

15 offices were established across Europe, including in Paris and Rome.

1976

The Osaka Office was established.

1977

Began direct communication with each office via DTOS (Direct Tour Operation System), an in-house developed system.
The Fukuoka Office was established.

1983

The OSCAR (Operation, Sales, Communication, Account, Rationalization) system project was launched to integrate all business operations.

1987

Celebrated the company’s 20th anniversary.
Became the sole agent in Japan for Italia Tour.

1988

The Tokyo Branch was incorporated as a Japanese company, changing its name to MIKI Tourist Co., Ltd.
The OSCAR system was completed.

1988 – 1994

9 new offices were established in Europe, including Stockholm and Oslo, bringing the total to 24 offices.

1989

Then-President and CEO Shigeta Nakanishi served as Secretary General of the Japan Committee for the 200th Anniversary of the French Revolution.
Expanded into North America, Canada, and Oceania.

1990

Became the sole agent for the Japan region for the World Cup football (Italy).
The Nagoya Office was established.

1991

Became the sole agent for the Japan region for the Rugby World Cup (UK).
Launched Myu, a product line focused on individual travel.

1992

Celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary.
Obtained sales rights for Euro Disney Resort Hotels in the Japan region and became a partner.
Undertook the role of sole agent for the Far East offices of the Irish Tourist Board and Aer Lingus.
Established MIKI TOURIST (ASIA) LTD. in Hong Kong, entering the Southeast Asian market.

1993

Launched the Myu Support System.
Became the sole agent in Japan for Viking Line.

1994

The REX online hotel reservation system was launched for travel agencies using Myu individual travel products.

1995

Became the sole agent in Japan for Royal Olympic Cruises, an Aegean Sea cruise line.

1996

Became the sole agent in Japan for Celebrity Cruises, a Caribbean and Alaska cruise line.
The ZEUS hotel reservation system was completed.

1997

Celebrated the company’s 30th anniversary.
Opened new sales offices in Sendai, Northern Kanto, Yokohama, and Hiroshima.
Opened new offices in Lisbon and Prague.

1998

Became the sole agent in Japan for Royal Caribbean International.
A new office was opened in Budapest.

1999

The Myu Information Center was opened.

2000

A new office was opened in Dublin.
Launch of the business improvement project for the entire booking system.

2001

Became the sole agent in Japan for Disneyland Paris.
Began handling arrangements for the Southern Africa region.

2002

Celebrated the company’s 35th anniversary.

2003

Added WEB REX Plus to the online hotel reservation system for individual travel.
Began selling F.I.T. (Free Independent Traveler) hotels in the US, Canada, Oceania, and Asia.

2001 – 2007

The Middle East and Africa regions were gradually developed as areas for direct arrangements from Japan.

2007

Celebrated the 40th anniversary of our founding.

2009

A new office was opened in Warsaw.

2010

The new reservation system for individual travel, mikiNet, was launched.
Sold the first-ever Japan-based cruise by a foreign passenger ship.
The “Shanghai and Korea Cruise on Legend of the Seas” was awarded the Grand Prix in that year’s “Cruise of the Year.”
Began sales and arrangements for the India region.

2011

Began sales and arrangements for the Hawaii region.
A new satellite office was opened in Shibuya.

2012

A new satellite office was opened in Shinjuku.
The Myu Tokyo Office was opened in Onarimon.

2013

Began handling arrangements for South America.

2015

Began handling arrangements for Central America.

2017

Celebrated the company’s 50th anniversary
